New to Hellraiser: Revival? Manage healing, hoard lockpicks, take optional puzzles, and pick the right difficulty. Advice that prevents softlocks.
Hellraiser: Revival Beginner Tips: 12 Things to Know First
Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival runs 8-12 hours with no chapter select, no backtracking past an area transition and no coin farming, so a first run is decided by resource habits rather than aim: heal later than feels safe, take every optional puzzle, buy lockpicks over ammo, and pick your difficulty before you press start. Skip those and you finish with dead trophies and empty pockets. Checked against the official FAQ, PowerPyx, Bloody Disgusting and gam3s as of October 12, 2026 — four days after launch, no public patch notes yet.

The 12 beginner tips at a glance
| # | Tip | The rule |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Heal late | Stay amber; finishers and food first |
| 2 | Guard healing supplies | Crafting materials never respawn |
| 3 | Hoard lockpicks | Buy ahead of shotgun shells |
| 4 | Sell every Treasure | Coins cannot be farmed |
| 5 | Do hidden optional puzzles | Unmarked side puzzles pay out |
| 6 | Open every keypad | The code is always in the room |
| 7 | Stealth-kill with the knife | The only melee weapon that never degrades |
| 8 | Expect melee to break | Blunt beats armour, blades beat flesh |
| 9 | Skip most attachments | Some mods are mutually exclusive |
| 10 | Front-load shop trophies | Two coin trackers can stall |
| 11 | Pick difficulty for saves | Hellraiser is new-game-only |
| 12 | Save before anything missable | No chapter select, no NG+ |
Every rule is scarcity: materials do not respawn, coins do not farm, melee does not repair, rooms do not reopen. Treat each visit as your only one.
Heal later than you think (tips 1-2)
Resident Evil reflexes cost you here. Bloody Disgusting's guide argues you can sit in the amber health zone without dressing a wound, because cheaper heals are everywhere: a takedown finisher on a dying enemy restores health and tops up the Suffering meter that powers your Genesis Configuration, while food — leftovers in party rooms, scraps in trash cans — heals for free. Crafted medicine is the expensive last resort: the medkit alone costs 2 Cloth, 4 Herbs and 1 Chemical, and gam3s notes crate contents are randomised, so reloading to farm an ingredient does not repeat reliably. A bandage spent on chip damage is a boss fight you start shorter.
Hoard lockpicks, sell every Treasure (tips 3-4)
Lockpicks open the storage cupboards that hold rare weapon upgrades and extra inventory pouches (Bloody Disgusting), and the picks wear out under pressure — stock up at every Zora visit, even ahead of shotgun shells. Coins get the same paranoia: gam3s states income cannot be farmed, so sell every Treasure item on sight and kill cultists for their coin purses.
| First-shop recipe | Price | Materials to craft |
|---|---|---|
| Lockpick | 120 coins | 3 Scraps + 3 Coils |
| Basic Repair Kit | 120 coins | 1 Scrap + 1 Cloth + 2 Coils |
| Medkit | 200 coins | 2 Cloth + 4 Herbs + 1 Chemical |
| Pistol ammo | Free | Learned with the pistol |
Prices are gam3s' first-shop list; Zora's stock rotates. What to buy with the coins is covered under weapons and upgrades.
Take the optional puzzles the game never points at (tips 5-6)
Bloody Disgusting describes an unmarked puzzle built around a monolithic piece of body art left by the prophet Bruno: it gives clues to hidden growths nearby, and destroying all of them showers you with coins on your return — one detour worth a high-roller purchase. Nothing marks it on the HUD.
Keypads run on the same rule: the code is always in the room — on a statue, a note, a tattoo, a painting — so sprinting past a space costs you its contents. PowerPyx counts five keypad locks for Codebreaker; gam3s' walkthrough table lists ten coded doors. Solve every lock you find and either count is satisfied. Rotation puzzles that pay back resources are mapped in Genesis Configuration puzzle solutions.
The game records which of the 12 crafting recipes you have collected, but not how many times you have crafted each one (gam3s). Keep your own checklist or the recipe trophy slips away unnoticed.
Stealth first, because melee breaks (tips 7-8)
This game punishes shooter thinking. gam3s reports the knife you pick up early is the only melee weapon that never degrades, making it the correct default against cultists and the zombie-like Unworthy: every enemy stabbed from behind is ammo and durability banked for something that shoots back. Guns are what you use when stealth fails.
Everything else is finite: melee weapons carry durability, break permanently and cannot be repaired from broken; blunt answers armour, blades answer flesh, and repair kits compete with your medkits for materials.
Don't buy every upgrade (tip 9)
Some attachments are mutually exclusive, and the shop lets you buy both halves anyway: Bloody Disgusting notes the magnum cannot mount scope and hollow-point at the same time, and the assault rifle cannot take extended magazine alongside extra bullet penetration. Owning a mod you can never equip is a pure coin burn.
Spend in this order instead (gam3s): SMG Supersonic Bullets, pistol Heavy Grain Bullets, then the assault rifle's AP Rounds at 450 coins from the third shop — one-shotting two flashing enemies is the practical route to Trickshot. Guns carry five attachment slots, so Lord of War is reachable without buying the catalogue.
The two shop trophies: do them at the first Zora (tip 10)
PowerPyx reports that on PS5 the trackers for What're Ya Buyin? (spend 666+ coins) and What're Ya Sellin? (earn 999+ from sales) can stick if they are not triggered early. Its fix: manual save at the first Zora shop, roughly an hour in, then sell everything and buy and rebuy until both unlock. Lord of War may also sit silent after a full mod — re-attaching attachments reportedly kicks it. No public patch has addressed either as of October 12, 2026; status is tracked in known issues.
One manual save protects both coin trophies and gives you a rollback for recipes. It costs ten seconds; losing these trophies costs a playthrough.
Difficulty and saving: choose before you start (tip 11)
The four modes differ less in enemy health than in how often the game writes a save. Per gmtreks' breakdown (updated October 10, 2026):
| Difficulty | Combat | Saving | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | Near-zero resistance | Autosaves | Story-only run |
| Normal | Balanced | Autosaves | Recommended first playthrough |
| Hard | Real challenge | Limited save points, no autosave | Resource-confident players |
| Hellraiser | Swarming enemies, scarce resources | Limited Save Tokens | Challenge runs |
Hellraiser can only be selected when you start a new game; Easy, Normal and Hard switch at any time, so a first run loses nothing by staying on Normal. Assists (Aim Assist, Death Hints, Object Highlight, Interact Indicators, boss health bar) are toggles, not difficulty trades. Save mechanics and the launch-window reports of Hellraiser save points misbehaving are covered in difficulty and saving.

Missables: manual-save before the point of no return (tip 12)
Every area is a one-way trip. gam3s and PowerPyx both report no chapter select and no backtracking past transitions, and community coverage of a developer interview says there is no New Game Plus at launch. gmtreks counts 27 trophy-tied collectibles — 5 guns, 12 recipes, 5 Pain Pillars for max health, 5 Suffering Pillars for capacity — most sitting on Labyrinth side paths you cannot return to.
| Missable | Trigger | Protection |
|---|---|---|
| A Quiet Place | Graveyard stealth stretch | Save on entry, no hits, touch no throwables |
| Sticks and Stones | Kill with a rock | Carry one to an early isolated enemy |
| Red Dead Damnation | All 9 bottles at the shooting range | Clear the range before moving on |
| Codebreaker | Keypad locks | Stop at every coded door |
| Guns Lots of Guns | All 5 guns | Buy or find each before the finale |
| Pain / Suffering Pillars (5 + 5) | Labyrinth side paths | Detour at every branch |
| Both endings | Final apartment choice | Save manually, reload the final autosave |
Media guides disagree on A Quiet Place: PowerPyx calls it a no-damage stealth run, gam3s warns that touching a throwable in the graveyard locks it out. The safe play covers both. Locations for all 27 collectibles are in the collectibles guide, trophy order in the achievements list.
FAQ
Which difficulty should a first playthrough use? Normal. Autosaves stay on, modes switch freely, and Hellraiser — the only tier with limited Save Tokens — is new-game-only anyway.
Can I clean up missables in New Game Plus? No. There is no New Game Plus at launch and areas do not reopen, so collect everything in the run you are in. Endings are the exception: the final autosave sits before the choice, so reloading it earns the second ending in one playthrough — see how to get both endings.
How long does a run take? The publisher says 8-12 hours; HowLongToBeat's player aggregates show about 8.5 hours for the main story and 22.5 for completionist. Sourcing is in how long is Hellraiser: Revival.
