Who Made Hellraiser: Revival? Inside Saber Interactive's Horror Team

Saber Interactive made Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival — and it published the game as well. Steam's store listing puts Saber Interactive in both the developer and publisher fields, and the game's Wikipedia entry opens by calling it "developed and published by Saber Interactive." It was built in Unreal Engine 5, directed by Emil Esov, and released on October 8, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 — see the release date breakdown for the per-platform timing. Boss Team Games appears all over the pre-order pages, but that studio only sells and ships the boxed editions; it did not develop the game.

Who Developed and Published Hellraiser: Revival?

Every first-party source points at one company. The Steam listing for the game lists a single developer and a single publisher, both Saber Interactive, and Saber's own support portal hosts the game's official FAQ under the "Saber Interactive" help center. There is no co-developer credited anywhere in the official materials.

Saber Interactive is not a small contractor either: its own press boilerplate describes 15 studios across the Americas and Europe, founded in 2001 and based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with credits including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, World War Z and SnowRunner plus contract work such as The Witcher 3 for Nintendo Switch. Embracer Group owned Saber from February 2020 until March 2024, when control returned to co-founder Matthew Karch's Beacon Interactive (per Wikipedia).

The one-line answer

Hellraiser: Revival was developed and published by Saber Interactive. Boss Team Games handled only the collector's editions, and Clive Barker is a story collaborator rather than the sole writer.

The Directors and Key Credits

Wikipedia names the core creative leads, two of whom have spoken on record. Spelling wrinkle: it credits narrative director Anthony De Fault, while Deadline's Gamescom interview types the same name as "Antony De Fault."

Name Role on Hellraiser: Revival Confirmation
Emil Esov Game director Wikipedia; his own byline reads "Game Director, Saber Interactive" on the PlayStation Blog preview
Anthony (Antony) De Fault Narrative director Wikipedia; Deadline interview, September 9, 2026
Petra Nikolić Art director Wikipedia development section
Clive Barker Story, in collaboration with the studio Wikipedia ("written in collaboration with the franchise's creator")
Doug Bradley Voice of Pinhead Press releases; Wikipedia

Esov told Deadline the reference shelf was deliberately narrow: Clive Barker's original written work and the first two films — Hellraiser (1987) and Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988), the same pair Wikipedia records as the game's inspiration. For moment-to-moment feel he named Resident Evil, BioShock and Condemned: Criminal Origins.

What Clive Barker Actually Did on the Story

Two summaries of Barker's role exist, and they are not equally strong. Wikipedia says the game was "written in collaboration with the franchise's creator, Clive Barker" and that Barker "was consulted on the game's story from the beginning of development." The directors' own account is more specific — and more modest.

In the Deadline interview, Esov explained that the first conversations were not with Barker at all: "when we started developing the game, it wasn't a direct conversation with Clive. It was mostly talking to licensors/IP holders to see if it's available." De Fault then described Barker's hands-on scope: "He gave us a few pointers on the representation of the labyrinth, some aesthetic choices, and stuff like that, but it was truly minimally invasive. It was a really nice relationship."

The license itself sits elsewhere: the official press-release legal line states the Hellraiser rights are "exclusively licensed for video games to Lament GameCo, LLC by Clive Barker and Park Avenue Entertainment, LLC," with game content copyrighted to Saber Interactive Inc. and Lament GameCo, LLC.

The accurate phrasing: Barker collaborated on the story; Saber's own writers wrote it. His name on the box is a real credit, not a marketing alias.

Doug Bradley Returns as Pinhead

Yes — Doug Bradley, who played Pinhead in the first eight Hellraiser films, voices him again. He had already recorded the role for the Dead by Daylight DLC, delisted in April 2025, so Revival is his second game as the Hell Priest.

De Fault gave Deadline the specifics: "Doug was involved for less of the production because he came in to consult on his character a little bit, and to record his lines." Bradley read the script and gave notes "on how Pinhead might behave or speak," and liked that in this game "Pinhead has an actual agenda" driving the plot alongside Aidan's. For what that means in play, see Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revival and the characters and voice cast list.

Why Boss Team Games Is on the Pre-Order Page

This is the confusion worth clearing up, because the two companies were marketed together for well over a year.

Official source: Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival FAQ — Saber Interactive Support "Please be aware that Boss Team Games is responsible for the sale and fulfillment of these versions of the game, and, as such, we are unable to provide additional information - including about shipping - to players. For anyone with specific questions regarding their pre-ordered Collector's Edition, please contact Boss Team Games directly."

Three things pile up on top of that sentence:

  1. Co-branded press releases. The December 13, 2025 announcement was headlined "SABER INTERACTIVE & BOSS TEAM GAMES REVEAL…" — read fast, it looks like a developer partnership.
  2. A store that sells only the big boxes. Boss Team's storefront carries the Collector's Editions (puzzle-box replica, statue, art book, SteelBook, Barker-signed print). Wikipedia's release section describes three collector's edition releases, though the December 2025 announcement described two, and the FAQ routes all shipping questions to Boss Team rather than to Saber.
  3. A real games-credit history. Boss Team's official bio lists Evil Dead: The Game, Cobra Kai: Card Fighter and the RetroRealms series — and the credit lines for Evil Dead itself are inconsistent across outlets (Wikipedia and Gematsu list the two companies in opposite roles), which is how "Boss Team made the Hellraiser game" ends up in social posts.

The practical split: Saber Interactive develops and publishes the game; Boss Team Games runs the collector's-edition store, support and shipping. A statue or boxed copy in an edition comparison is a Boss Team product; the digital game on Steam, PSN, Xbox and eShop is Saber's.

Do not send shipping complaints to Saber

Per the official FAQ, Saber support cannot answer shipping questions — those go to Boss Team Games (support@bossteamgames.com). Edition stock and delivery disputes are tracked on our known issues page.

Where the Team's Horror DNA Came From

Revival is the first video game in the Hellraiser franchise — Pinhead's only prior game appearance was the Dead by Daylight DLC — so the studio had no gameplay template to inherit. Esov's team built one from outside the franchise instead: survival-horror structure from Resident Evil, environmental storytelling from BioShock, and the melee brutality of Condemned: Criminal Origins, layered under a story about characters "with flaws and desires and inner voids," as he put it at Gamescom 2026. The credits show it stayed in-house: one developer, one publisher, one engine.
