Doug Bradley voices Pinhead again in Hellraiser: Revival. His role, the new form, and how the game fits Hellraiser franchise canon.
Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revival: Doug Bradley's Return and New Form
Doug Bradley voices Pinhead in Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival, making this his first performance of the role in a game since Dead by Daylight's Hellraiser chapter was removed from sale in April 2025. In the story he plays the Hell Priest who cuts a bargain with Aidan Lynch, and late in the campaign he returns in an ascended new form. Here is what he does, how the voice was rebuilt and where the game puts him in canon — spoiler-gated.
Who Is Pinhead in Hellraiser: Revival?
Pinhead is the leader of the Cenobites, the extradimensional beings who answer to Leviathan, and in the game's script he is also written as the Hell Priest — the figure who tears Sunny apart with hooked chains in the opening and later negotiates with Aidan. The game's Steam page sells the whole premise around him: you "survive your bargain with the infamous Pinhead."
Beyond him, the roster pulls film veterans Butterball, Chatterer and Deep Throat alongside the game's own quartet (the Child, the Cabalist, the Fallen and the Priest), so Pinhead sits on top of a wider demon lineup rather than carrying the campaign alone. Full mechanics for each are on our Cenobites page.

Doug Bradley's Voice Return, and How the Sound Was Rebuilt
Bradley originated the role in Clive Barker's Hellraiser in 1987 and played Pinhead through the first eight Hellraiser films; his last turn in the makeup came in the mid-2000s. He then voiced the character for Dead by Daylight, whose Hellraiser chapter launched on September 7, 2021 and left storefronts on April 4, 2025 (owners kept him). Hellraiser: Revival is the next time he has performed the part in a game.
| Appearance | Medium | Bradley's involvement | Status as of October 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| First eight Hellraiser films, 1987 to the mid-2000s | Film | Played Pinhead on screen | Finished run; Jamie Clayton took the role in the 2022 reboot |
| Dead by Daylight — Hellraiser chapter (Chapter 21) | Asymmetric multiplayer DLC | Voiced Pinhead | Released September 7, 2021; removed from sale April 4, 2025 |
| Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival | Single-player action horror | Voiced Pinhead (reprised) | Released October 8, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2 |
Nobody archived how the original voice effect was made. In a BAFTA video conversation, the team explained that the 1980s process was never documented, so each film's new sound crew had to guess at the effect from scratch. For the game, Bradley described the vocal treatment as he remembered it, and that description became the sound team's starting point — game director Emil Esov, narrative director Anthony De Fault and Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits took part. Reporting on this comes from iHorror and Dread Central, not a Saber press release, so treat it as media coverage. The rest of the cast is on the characters and voice cast page, with billing at IMDb.
The effect was rebuilt from Bradley's own recollection rather than remastered from an original session, because no archive of the 1980s vocal chain existed.
Pinhead's Bargain With Aidan
Pinhead is the engine of the plot, not a wandering stalker. The beats below are the deal as the campaign lays it out; the last two rows cover the final act.
| Story beat | What the Hell Priest does | Spoiler level |
|---|---|---|
| Opening | Summons hooked chains that kill Sunny and knock Aidan unconscious | Light — happens in the first minutes |
| Scarlet Church escape | Reappears in visions while Aidan hunts for Sunny | Light |
| The deal | When Aidan activates the Genesis Configuration, the Priest agrees to help him rescue Sunny "in exchange for his flesh when the time comes" | Moderate — mid-game |
| The Labyrinth | Leads Aidan inside the Cenobites' dimension and later explains what the Rite of Rebirth actually does | Moderate — late mid-game |
| Payment | Demands the bargain be honoured; Aidan submits and lets Sunny consume his hand | Heavy — final act |
| Rebirth (spoiler) | Dissolves over Sunny and is reborn through her | Heavy — final act |
The transaction is deliberately one-sided: the Priest tells Marlowe that the cult leader was never destined for ascension and is instead "an ingredient for the Rite," which is the clearest statement of how the Cenobites view humans.

Pinhead's New Form (Spoilers)
Stop here if you have not finished the campaign. The transformation, the Revenant Mother reveal and both endings are covered below.
After Aidan feeds Sunny Marlowe's heart and restores her, the Cenobites arrive and the Priest demands payment. Aidan submits, and the Priest then explains what the Genesis Configuration is actually for: identifying a Revenant Mother — someone with a womb, sufficient will and an unquenchable void. As Sunny gives birth, the Priest kneels over her and dissolves. When Aidan is thrown into the Labyrinth and claws his way back, Sunny has delivered an ascended incarnation of the Priest, described as able to experience greater sensations and to wield Leviathan's powers of revelation.
So the "new form" is not a power-up mid-campaign; it is a rebirth through another character, and it is the last major Pinhead scene in the game. Sunny's confession that she agreed to this from the start reframes the entire rescue. What follows is the choice between entering the Void and refusing — the two ending achievements are covered step by step in our both endings guide, and the wider reveal on our story explained page.
Where the Game Fits in Hellraiser Canon
Saber's own Steam description calls the game "A New Story in Hellraiser's Canon" and says Aidan unwittingly kicks off Pinhead's ritual. The production record, meanwhile, says the game was predominantly inspired by the atmosphere, themes and mythos of Hellraiser (1987) and Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988), that it is the first video game in the franchise, and that Clive Barker was consulted on the story from the beginning of development.

No source states a calendar date or an explicit "this happens after film X" placement as of October 12, 2026 — the campaign never gives you a year. Players are filling that gap themselves (a fresh r/hellraiserthegame thread argues the first film versus the second), so treat any timeline chart as interpretation rather than confirmation.
"Inspired by the first two films" is sourced; "set after Hellbound" is community inference. Keep the two separate when you are citing the game.
Is Pinhead a Boss You Fight?
No — as of the October 12, 2026 build, the boss roster is Bruno, Charlotte, Sister of Mercy and Marlowe, with Pinhead appearing in scripted scenes instead. He is billed as the overarching antagonist rather than a duelling opponent, so the bargain's final payment is the closest thing to a direct confrontation. Mechanics and phases for the four real bosses are in the boss guides; the route that leads to them is in the walkthrough hub.
