The Genesis Configuration grants telekinesis and Hellchains, powered by Suffering. How every box power unlocks and the economy that feeds them.
Hellraiser Revival Genesis Configuration Powers: Telekinesis, Hellchains and Suffering
The Genesis Configuration in Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is a weapon system, not just a puzzle box: it grants Telekinesis early in the campaign, Pyrokinesis by the mid-game statue hunt, and Hellchains right after the third Chatterer chase, and every one of them spends a resource called Suffering. Suffering is banked by executing enemies with the box, and its ceiling grows each time you activate one of the five Suffering Pillars hidden off the Labyrinth's main path. Hellchains is the payoff — at a full gauge it hooks and instantly kills every basic enemy around you, and it carries its own 69-kill achievement.
Every Genesis Configuration power and its unlock point
Saber's own trailer breakdown splits the kit into executions, Telekinesis, Pyrokinesis and Hell Chains, plus out-of-combat Labyrinth reshaping:
Official source: The power of the box is yours — Genesis Configuration gameplay trailer press release, May 20, 2026
"Banish your enemies with gruesome executions to gather their Suffering and unleash a variety of abilities with the Genesis Configuration. Use Telekinesis to launch saw blades, rail spikes and more at enemies to maim and dismember them. Wield Pyrokinesis to absorb incandescent fire to burn away foes and the environment. And summon forth the iconic Hell Chains to tear your opponents apart without mercy."
| Box power or use | What it does | Unlock point |
|---|---|---|
| Box execution | Finish an Unworthy enemy after shooting it until it flashes blue; per the official trailer, executions are what "gather their Suffering" | Documented from your first Unworthy encounter, in the "Get to Safety" objective (PowerPyx collectible guide) |
| Labyrinth reshaping | Retransform parts of the Labyrinth to open paths forward; the same interaction drives every box puzzle | Every Labyrinth visit — solutions in the Genesis Configuration puzzle page |
| Telekinesis | Launch saw blades, rail spikes and other loose props without spending a bullet | Exit the sewer area into the woods — trophy With Great Power, story-related (PowerPyx trophy guide) |
| Pyrokinesis | Absorb incandescent fire to burn enemies and scenery | In the kit by the statue hunt — PowerPyx first uses "the ability to pull and throw fire" in the "Find the Statue's Tongue" objective; no guide publishes an exact unlock moment |
| Hellchains | Hook every basic enemy near you and kill them instantly | Immediately after the third Chatterer chase — trophy Unlimited Power!, story-related |
Wikipedia's gameplay summary agrees: the box "can also be used as a weapon and provides the player with additional abilities, including telekinesis" (Wikipedia).
How Suffering feeds the box powers
Suffering is the box's ammo. The official trailer states the loop outright: executions gather it, abilities spend it. Outlet guides describe the readout as the blue gauge in the lower-left of the HUD, the meter behind the lift-and-throw powers (sportsrant). Two things move it:
- Refill: fight. PowerPyx's Hellchains instruction reads "attack them until you regain all your Suffering" — damage in the normal gun-and-melee loop rebuilds the meter, and executions are the fast lane.
- Capacity: Suffering Pillars. PowerPyx states that "Suffering Pillars increase your Suffering (Genesis Configuration powers)"; outlet guides describe each activation as a permanent raise to the gauge's maximum. More pillars, sooner full-gauge Hellchains.
PowerPyx notes that "in most Labyrinth areas you cannot backtrack at all, as the game constantly closes walls behind you". Seeing a pillar is not enough — interact with it before leaving its area.
The five Suffering Pillars
Suffering Pillars raise the box's capacity; the parallel set of five Pain Pillars raises health, and all ten sit slightly off the main path. Locations follow the objective headings PowerPyx uses (the in-game Objectives menu matches); screenshot routes are in the collectibles guide and Labyrinth walkthrough.
| # | Objective heading | Where it is |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Free Sunny's Soul | After the sprint under the closing spike walls, turn left at the red light; the pillar sits among the rotating traps |
| 2 | Free Sunny's Soul | Where you can see Leviathan and the Chatterer keeps appearing — turn around at the arches, before the two blue flames |
| 3 | Give Charlotte's Heart to Sunny | Directly on the path, just past the save point on entering the Labyrinth |
| 4 | Exit the Labyrinth | The third rotating section of the octagonal-path room; spin sections two and three to build the route first |
| 5 | Hunt Marlowe | The open area with the moving Leviathan beam: shoot the flame at the block, move the block to reveal the pillar, take the fire back out |
The first pillar you touch unlocks The Further Regions of Experience; all five Suffering Pillars unlock Pain And Pleasure, Indivisible, and all five Pain Pillars unlock There Are No Limits.
Hellchains and the 69-kill achievement
Hellchains unlocks from story progression after the third Chatterer chase, so the power itself cannot be missed. The trophy built on it can: In the Land of the Pig, the Butcher is King — "Rip apart 69 enemies using Hellchains" — is flagged missable, because there is no Chapter Select.

You land in a room full of enemies with a tutorial prompt. Trigger Hellchains, reload the most recent autosave, and the room repopulates alive — a few loops finishes the trophy. You get 8 manual slots plus 2 rotating autosaves per playthrough (PowerPyx roadmap); see difficulty modes and how saving works.
Stock rules, per PowerPyx: Hellchains "can only be used while at full Suffering, and allows you to kill all nearby basic enemies instantly". It is crowd control for Unworthy and cultists, not a boss-killer — bosses like Bruno, Charlotte, Sister of Mercy and Marlowe want ordinary guns (boss guides).
Why box powers replace ammo in hard fights
Ammunition here is a crafted, finite economy, and the box sits outside it:
- Materials are capped. Of 12 recipes (2 from story, 10 from Zora), PowerPyx warns materials "do not respawn and cannot be purchased" — every pistol round crafted spends scraps a repair kit needed.
- Melee breaks for good. A broken melee weapon is "immediately discarded" and never repaired, so executions keep durability in your hands.
- Stealth kills are free. The knife does not break and one-shots most human enemies.
- Bosses drain magazines. PowerPyx notes the first Bruno fight will "use up most of your ammo and weapons", so clearing the trash around it with Telekinesis throws pays off. Gun details: weapons and upgrades.
- Hellraiser difficulty sharpens all of it. The top difficulty ships with more enemies and scarcer resources, so an ammo-free crowd clear stops being a luxury. See the beginner tips.
As of launch week (checked October 12, 2026), no public patch notes had been published — nothing above reflects a post-launch balance change.
Box power achievements at a glance
What's in the Box?! and Puzzle Me This were checked against Steam's 69-achievement list; the rest follow PowerPyx's console list (44 on PS5/Xbox).
| Achievement | Requirement | Missable? |
|---|---|---|
| What's in the Box?! | Use the Genesis Configuration for the first time | No — story |
| Puzzle Me This | Complete 3 Labyrinth puzzles | No — story |
| With Great Power | Unlock Telekinesis | No — story |
| Unlimited Power! | Unlock Hellchains | No — story |
| In the Land of the Pig, the Butcher is King | Rip apart 69 enemies using Hellchains | Yes — farm at unlock |
| The Further Regions of Experience | Activate a Labyrinth pillar artifact | Yes |
| There Are No Limits | Activate all 5 Pain Pillars | Yes |
| Pain And Pleasure, Indivisible | Activate all 5 Suffering Pillars | Yes |
Difficulty does not affect any of them (PowerPyx), so a missed pillar can be cleaned up on Easy — if you still hold a manual save from before the walls closed. The full list, including the two glitched shop trophies, is on the achievements page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Genesis Configuration replace guns? It replaces the ammo you would spend on crowds: executions, Telekinesis throws and Hellchains clear basic enemies without touching your magazine count. Bosses and armoured targets still want firearms.
How do I refill the Suffering gauge fast? Fight normally and execute blue-stunned enemies. Raising the ceiling permanently means activating all five Suffering Pillars.
Is Hellchains missable? The power is not — it unlocks from story progression. The 69-kill achievement is, because there is no Chapter Select; farm it in the unlock room.
